Tender process is now open for the Launceston General Hospital children’s ward 4K, Minister for Health Michael Ferguson said.

First major upgrade of the paediatric ward in more than 30 years, this $9.8 Million project is testament to our commitment to invest in and improve our health system.

“It is also only possible because we have balanced the budget, meaning we can afford to invest more money into essential services like health.” Minister Ferguson said.

This exciting project will see Ward 4K redesigned, expanded and refurbished to incorporate both a Paediatric Inpatient Unit and Paediatric Mental Health Unit.

It will also allow for the separation of younger children and teenagers to provide more appropriate care and allow a better recovery environment.

A family area will be more home-like and welcoming with a lounge and kitchen for families and visitors who play a significant role in the recovery of children.

“This upgrade has been talked about for years but it has taken a majority Liberal Government to deliver.” Minister Ferguson said.

Expressions of interest advertisements have been placed in all major Tasmanian newspapers today. Tender process closes on February 2, 2018.
