A Victorian Liberal Nationals Coalition Government will invest $17.85 Million to build the first stage of the Kerang Hospital Redevelopment Program.

Leader of the Victorian Liberal Nationals Coalition Ted Baillieu joined Deputy Leader of The Nationals and local Member for Swan Hill Peter Walsh in announcing the upgrade at Kerang Hospital today.

“As part of the Coalition’s Clear Plan to build for future health demands we will invest $17.85 Million over the First Term of Government to fund Stage 1 of the Kerang Hospital Rebuilding Program.” Mr. Baillieu said.

“Stage 1 will involve the complete rebuild of the residential aged care facility and the construction of a new Ambulance Station.”

“The redevelopment will provide a modern 30 bed aged care facility that will meet the needs of the Kerang community for many years to come.”

“This capital works program is the result of 18 months of detailed work by the Kerang Hospital in developing a Capital Master Plan which guarantees the long-term needs of Kerang and the district will be properly met.” Mr. Baillieu said.

Mr. Walsh expressed his admiration for the State’s Regional Health Workers who are continually forced to work in sub-standard conditions.

“Regional Health in Victoria has been neglected by the Brumby Labor Government and there is no better example of Labor’s failure than the outdated facilities at the Kerang Hospital.” Mr. Walsh said.

“Boards of hospitals like Kerang have long been lobbying for funding to enable them to provide the services their communities desperately need.”

“This is a big win for the District and I commend the Board for the work they have done in developing the Plan.”

“I look forward to working as part of a Coalition Government in delivering this $17.85 Million Redevelopment in the first term so that the Kerang Community has the Health Infrastructure it deserves.” Mr. Walsh said.
