  • Justice Andrew Beech SC appointed as a judge of the Court of Appeal

Attorney General John Quigley today announced the appointment of the Hon. Justice Andrew Beech SC as a judge of the Court of Appeal.

This appointment fills the vacancy left by the resignation of the Hon. Justice David Newnes as a judge of the Supreme Court and a judge of the Court of Appeal from April 21, 2017.

Justice Beech’s position becomes effective today following a swearing-in ceremony.

Justice Beech takes up his new appointment today following a successful legal career spanning more than three decades.

Justice Beech was admitted to practice after obtaining a Bachelor of Jurisprudence with Honours in 1983 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1984 at The University of Western Australia.

He completed his articles in 1985 and went on to work as a solicitor at Parker and Parker for a number of years and then later as Crown Prosecutor from 1992 to 1994.

In 1994, he joined Francis Burt Chambers as a barrister and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2004.

Between 1997 and 2007, he held various positions including editor of the Western Australian Reports, a lecturer at The University of Western Australia and Hearing Commissioner for the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission.

Justice Beech was appointed judge of the Supreme Court of WA in 2007 and has been sitting full time as a judge of the Court of Appeal in recent months.

I commend Justice Beech on his appointment as a judge of the Court of Appeal.
