Tasmania Shadow Minister for Heritage Matthew Groom

Minister Backs Red Awning Removal

In Parliament Question Time today the Minister for Heritage, Brian Wightman, backed the flawed decision of the Heritage Council to remove the red awnings from 26 Murray Street, Shadow Minister for Heritage Matthew Groom said today.

“Worse, the Minister suggested that the red awnings were a trivial issue of no importance to Tasmanians. Labor and the Greens just don’t get it.” Mr. Groom said.

“What message does it send to investors, developers and businesses when we have an interstate property owner possibly having to go to court because they wanted to put up some awnings?”

“We need to encourage people to invest in heritage, not scare them off with bizarre rules that fly in the face of commonsense.” Mr. Groom said.
