Cullen Bay Pontoon A Titanic Failure

The Henderson Government’s decision to again pull the tender to replace the Cullen Bay Pontoon means it will be another year before the Pontoon is replaced, Member for Port Darwin John Elferink said today.

“It’s possible the Current Pontoon will sink before a new one is built.”

“The Government has been fluffing around with this project for over a year now, and it’s troubling to see the tender has been pulled yet again.” Mr. Elferink said.

“The existing pontoon is too small, takes on water, services too many vessels and needs an upgrade.”

“The Government issued tenders because it knows it needs to be replaced, but for reasons only they know, Labor keeps changing it mind.” Mr. Elferink said.

“Fuel lines are kinked and electrical cables are dangling in the water having fallen out of their conduits near the kinked fuel line. Surprisingly, the Minister thinks all is well.”

“All is not well, and the fact the Pontoon has been leaking is of considerable concern.”

“Minister McCarthy, fix the Pontoon.” Mr. Elferink said.
