Heinz Street Crossing Upgrade Fast-Tracked

Upgrade of the Heinz Street level crossing in Bendigo will be fast-tracked to boost safety and save lives.

Minister for Public Transport and local Member Jacinta Allan has announced that the Heinz Street crossing will now be upgraded by the end of this year, six months sooner than originally planned.

Andrews Government is accelerating its $50 Million Safer Country Crossings Program (SCCP) so all upgrades is finished by the end of next year. The program was due to be complete by mid-2019.

“We’re fast-tracking this critical upgrade to make Bendigo safer, sooner.” Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan said.

“Heinz Street crossing will get lights, bells and boomgates, better protecting people from trains and reducing the risk of accidents and injuries.” Ms. Allan said.

Heinz Street level crossing will be upgraded with bells and boom gates to make this section of the Bendigo line safer for passengers and significantly reduce the risk of accidents.

  • Sandys Lane in Gnotuk,
  • Phalps Road in Pirron Yallock,
  • Back Larpent Road in Larpent,
  • Racecourse Road in Chiltern,
  • Rutherglen-Springhurst Road in Springhurst,
  • Palmerston Street in Baddaginnie,
  • Caroll Road in Benalla,
  • Mahers Road in Violet Town,
  • Nagambie-Locksley Road in Locksley,
  • Tragowel Road in Tragowel.

“It’s part of the Andrews Government’s unprecedented level crossing safety campaign, which includes crossing removals and upgrades, and increased fines for illegally crossing the tracks.” Ms. Allan said.
