Mental Health Scholarship

Victor P Taffa

Federal Member for Solomon, Natasha Griggs, will establish a new scholarship to assist a student living in Darwin or Palmerston who is studying towards a qualification in the mental health discipline.

The ‘Mental Health Scholarship’ will award $3,000 to one student every year to be used to help meet the costs of obtaining their mental health qualification.

The Scholarship will be funded by Mrs. Griggs.

“I am committed to the improvement of Mental Health services in the Northern Territory, and one way to do this is to assist a Territorian studying in the Mental Health discipline.” Mrs. Griggs said.

“While there is no specific requirement on how the scholarship funds should be spent, I hope they will be used as a contribution towards course fees, the purchase of course related books or other study related expenses.”

“Mental Health is a crucial issue across the Northern Territory and I am keen to contribute in any way I can to improving Mental Health treatment in Solomon.” Mrs. Griggs said.

To be eligible to receive the scholarship, applicants must be enrolled and resident in the Solomon electorate; a full time undergraduate student in a Northern Territory education provider at Certificate IV, Diploma, Bachelor or Post-graduate Diploma level; and in a mental health nurse, psychology or related course.

Applications are available from Mrs. Griggs office and close on the 25th February 2011.
