Victorian Minister for Racing Denis Napthine is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified individuals to join the Board of Greyhound Racing Victoria.

“I call on leaders in racing, business and marketing to consider taking an active role in the future of this vibrant industry. There is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the Greyhound Racing Victoria Board.” Dr. Napthine said.

“Greyhound Racing makes a substantial contribution to Victoria, particularly to regional communities and economies. Twelve Regional Clubs and Two Metropolitan Clubs conducted 869 race meets at 13 tracks in 2010, distributing more than $25 Million in Prize Money.”

“To keep these industries vibrant there needs to be a balance of new members with fresh ideas and enthusiasm, who can complement the extensive skills and experience in racing, business and public affairs of the current Board members.” Dr. Napthine said.

“The Victorian racing industry employs thousands of Victorians and generates more than $2 Billion dollars worth of economic benefit to the state, more than half of which occurs in country areas. It is vital that the best available talent is attracted to lead the industry into the future.”

“Greyhound Racing Victoria is the body responsible for promoting and controlling the sport by setting standards, and regulating and policing the industry. Board members need an understanding of governance and the energy to provide solid leadership and direction.” Dr. Napthine said.
