The Treasurer’s mid-year financial report shows the Government’s addiction to running up debt shows no sign of abating.

Shadow Treasurer, Willem Westra van Holthe, said yesterday’s release of the Treasurer’s Mid Year Report shows the Government is on track to clock up an additional $480 Million in debt over the four year forward estimates period.

“That’s on top of the $1.68 Billion net debt the Government already signalled we’d be accruing until 2013-14.”

“Delia Lawrie is saddling every Territorian with an additional $2000 in debt because she can’t reign in her profligate spending.” Mr. Westra van Holthe said.

“The revised economic forecasts shine a light on the Government’s unhealthy reliance on GST revenues a tax they opposed over the past decade.”

“Instead of squirreling away during the good times, the Labor Government’s spending was out of control and Territorians will have to pay.” Mr. Westra van Holthe said.

“The Treasurer’s assertion that her plan for a new prison has contributed to the blow-out is absurd, considering the Government announced plans the facility almost three years ago.”

“As a rationale for the blow-out, Delia Lawrie obviously believes it sounds better than saying she’s lost control of the budget levers.” Mr. Westra van Holthe said.
