Boxing Day greyhound racing is back at the Horsham Showgrounds track, thanks to a joint funding package of more than $13,300 supported by the Andrews Government.

“Boxing Day greyhound event at Horsham is a great opportunity for the club to showcase quality greyhound racing while also supporting local jobs and providing an economic boost to the economy.” Minister for Racing Martin Pakula said.

Funding for Horsham’s Boxing Day Picnic on 26 December comes from:

  • $6,700 from the State Government through the Victorian Racing Industry Fund,
  • $4,500 from Greyhound Racing Victoria,
  • $2,100 from Horsham Greyhound Racing Club.

“We’r proud to support this festive picnic race day for the Horsham Greyhound Racing Club because it brings the community together and attracts visitors to our beautiful region.” Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford said.

Boxing Day event is promising to be a fun-filled day of racing and trackside entertainment, with racegoers encouraged to pack a picnic and take in the excitement of greyhound racing while also catching the Boxing Day Test on the big screen.

Entertainment will be on offer for young and old with a designated area for children as well as an inflatable ‘Old English Pub’-style bar and garden. The bar will include a barbeque throughout the day for hungry patrons.

Every child will receive a free slushie, popcorn and fairy floss, with jumping castles, a giant slide and face painting also on offer.

Since 2014, the Andrews Government has contributed more than $24,800 to support 2 greyhound racing events at Horsham.

“We’re proud to support this festive picnic race day for the Horsham Greyhound Racing Club bringing the community together and attracting visitors far and wide to all that our Grampians region has to offer.” Horsham Greyhound Racing Club Manager Justin Brilliant said.
