Premier Colin Barnett today announced that the State Government would contribute $100,000 to the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund.

The fund is raising money for Gascoyne Residents suffering hardship following the recent floods.

“While I was in Carnarvon earlier this week, I saw first-hand the devastation this natural disaster has caused.” Premier Barnett said.

“While the clean-up is now well under way, the Gascoyne and Mid-West floods appeal will help ease the pressure for families dealing with difficult circumstances.”

The Premier said the State Government would continue to provide financial assistance and support to those people affected by the floods.

A Natural Disaster Zone was declared in Carnarvon and those affected areas in the Gascoyne, Murchison and Pilbara regions for the purposes of the Western Australian Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (WANDRRA).

“At my request, Local Members of Parliament Ken Baston and Vince Catania have been working with the local shire and communities.” Premier Barnett said.

“Ken and Vince will continue to be our eyes and ears on the ground and help us identify the priorities during this challenging time.”

“I hope all West Australians will keep the people of Carnarvon and surrounding areas in their thoughts this holiday period.” Premier Barnett said.
