  • Work forms part of a 5-year program to install 2,900 new hydrants across Western Australia

5 suburbs across Geraldton will benefit from the installation of 94 new fire hydrants as part of the Water Corporation’s 5-year, $12.5 Million State-wide program.

“Work began in Geraldton in mid-April and will be rolled out in Mahomets Flats, Spalding, Strathalbyn, Utakarra and Waggrakine, with all 94 new fire hydrants expected to be installed by the end of May.” Minister for Water Dave Kelly said.

“This is a good opportunity to remind those living in bushfire prone areas across the Mid-West not to rely on scheme water supplies during a bushfire.”

The program will see an extra 2,900 fire hydrant installed across Western Australia. The program was developed after a review carried out by the Water Corporation and Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) identified additional fire hydrants were needed to meet current guidelines and standards.

Water Corporation, in consultation with DFES, Main Roads WA and local government authorities, determine the best locations for the new fire hydrants.

About 1,760 new fire hydrants have already been installed in both metropolitan and regional areas.
