A Flood Of Offers

The Territory Opposition is calling on the Territory Government to expand the scope of assistance it has offered to Queensland in the wake of last week’s devastating floods.

“I fully support the Territory Government’s actions to date and believe that sending officials from Treasury, Transport, Health and other Government Agencies would also be a great help.” John Elferink Manager of Opposition Business and Shadow Minister for Essential Services said today.

“In concert with the initial clean-up there will be a massive, ongoing backroom operation that will require extra hands.”

“The logistical task of responding to the damaged caused by the floods will need to be co-ordinated across all areas of Government.” Mr. Elferink said.

“Experienced Public Servants from the Territory can make a valuable contribution to the Backroom Operation.”

“The Public Servants working in Queensland would also be acquiring valuable experience in how to deal with large scale natural disasters.”

“That experience would be invaluable in the event of a natural disaster here.” Mr. Elferink said.

“It also needs to be kept in the mind that should a Cyclone strike Darwin we would be in need of similar assistance from other States.”

“Lending a hand to Queensland in its time of need is a demonstration of good faith that will be reciprocated in the future.” Mr. Elferink said.
