The Rann Labor Government will not reveal the cost of the new Royal Adelaide Hospital and do not know the details of the project to which they have committed South Australian tax payers for decades to come.

Leader of the Opposition, Isobel Redmond said that on radio this morning Health Minister John Hill refused to guarantee that the Cost of the Project would be $1.7 Billion or less.

“I’d like to be able to tell you and we will eventually be able to share with the public exactly what this is going to cost but we’re still in the financial settlement period… we’re very confident it will be good value for money that’s what I can assure people of…” (5AA, 13/10/10)

“Once the successful bidder has been announced the public have a right to know the cost of the Project.” Ms. Redmond said.

“It’s clear that the Rann Labor Government, in particular Treasurer Kevin Foley, do not know the timeframe of the hospital deal they have struck.”

“In two media releases the Government has made conflicting statements about the length of the hospital deal, one claiming a 29 year deal another a 35 year deal.”

“Under the deal, SA Health Partnership will build, finance and maintain the new RAH and provide non-clinical support services over a 29 year period.” Mr. Foley said.

“Then this morning on radio Minister Hill revealed he also doesn’t know the timeframe for the Hospital Deal saying”:

Hill:                 The great thing about it is when we get back from the builder in 2035 or ‘40 or whatever the year is I haven’t got the figures right in front of me

Journalist:       Must be ‘45 because it’s a 35 year deal

Hill:                 Yeah whatever it is, whatever it is

“The Rann Labor Government needs to come clean with South Australians on how much it will cost, how long it will take and what services will be provided at the new RAH.” Ms. Redmond said.
