  • Discovery Parks Onslow announced as 2016 Waterwise Caravan Park of the Year
  • Detection of leaks and repair led to 120,000 litres a day of water saved

Water Minister Mia Davies today announced Discovery Parks Onslow as the 2016 Waterwise Caravan Park of the Year, as part of National Water Week.

Waterwise Caravan Park of the Year award is jointly run by the Liberal National Government, through the Water Corporation, and the Caravan Industry Association Western Australia Inc. to recognise caravan parks in WA that are committed to using water wisely in our drying climate.

Ms. Davies said Discovery Parks Onslow was recognised for achieving significant reductions in scheme water use through detecting and repairing a significant leak, the use of recycled water for watering gardens and improved monitoring of water use.

“The repair of a large invisible leak led to the most savings, which was detected when unusually high water use was noticed by park management.” Ms. Davies said.

“With the help of the Water Corporation, the park installed isolation valves and a data logger and the leak was pinpointed in a section of old pipework.”

“Replacing the old pipework has reduced the amount of precious water used by the park by about 120,000 litres per day, which is a great outcome.”

“The park now uses smart metering technology to allow them to track water use on a daily basis, making it easier to identify any unusual jumps in water use.” Ms. Davies said.

Water Corporation works with the Caravan Industry Association Western Australia Inc. to better understand how water is used in caravan parks and help parks reduce their water use through improved water efficiency.

Waterwise Caravan Park of the Year offers the caravan park industry, as well as visitors who stay at caravan parks, the opportunity to play an important role in conserving our State’s precious water supply.
