Digital Effects Company To Make Award Winning Film

Ted Brings Film Jobs To Melbourne

Minister for Innovation, Services and Small Business, Louise Asher announced that a Melbourne digital effects company has been chosen to produce a visual effects package for the feature length film titled Ted.

The feature has been supported by the Victorian Coalition Government through Film Victoria’s Post Production, Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) incentive, part of the successful Production Investment Attraction Fund (PIAF).

 

“Through PIAF and the film commission services of Film Victoria, the Coalition Government has been able to secure around $70 Million in production expenditure for the state since December 2010.” Ms. Asher said.

Ted, by award-winning US writer, producer, comedian and animator Seth MacFarlane, is a comedy about a man (Mark Wahlberg) whose childhood wish for his beloved teddy bear to come to life, comes true.

“The producers of Ted will work with award-winning Melbourne visual effects and animation studio Iloura to create the keynote character Ted which will be brought to life through computer animation.”

South Melbourne based company Iloura is highly regarded in the film industry for producing outstanding results FX animation and motion design for television and advertising industries and films including, Where the Wild Things Are and Steven Spielberg’s The Pacific.

“Around 45 practitioners will work on the project over six months.” Ms. Asher said.

“Another US production has chosen Melbourne for undertaking its visual effects production. This highlights our state’s outstanding production attraction packages and the highest standard of talent available in Victoria.”

Film Victoria Acting CEO Jenni Tosi said Film Victoria’s competitive incentives combined with the state’s exceptional reputation as a growing visual effects hub made Melbourne an attractive option for international studios.

“Our highly skilled practitioners, leading technical innovation and competitively priced services keep them returning to Melbourne.” Ms. Tosi said.

MacFarlane, best known for his animated comedies Family Guy and American Dad, will write, direct, produce and star in the comedy Ted, alongside Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis and Giovanni Ribisi. Independent Film and TV studio Media Rights Capital will produce the film which will be distributed worldwide by Universal Pictures.

Ted is another in a long line of big-budget productions to choose Melbourne’s dynamic post-production and visual effects facilities, joining productions Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (Colombia Pictures) Sanctum (James Cameron), Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark (Guillermo del Toro) and The Pacific (HBO).

The visual effects work is due for completion in early 2012.
