The Ministerial Council on Drug Strategy (MCDS) Australia’s Peak Body of decision makers for drug and alcohol issues will meet in Perth tomorrow.

Made up of Health, Mental Health and Law Enforcement Ministers from across Australia and New Zealand, the MCDS determines National Policies and Programs to reduce harm from drug and alcohol use in our communities.

Tomorrow’s Meeting will be chaired by Mental Health Minister Helen Morton.

“Drug and alcohol related harm has no boundaries and affects people living in all Australian States and Territories.” Mrs. Morton said.

“This is a great opportunity to exchange ideas on issues such as alcohol consumption, alcohol advertising and mixing alcohol with energy drinks.”

“These discussions will arm us with additional knowledge to appropriately respond to drug and alcohol related harm in our communities.”

The council of ministers will discuss the National Drug Strategy 2010-2015, which provides a framework for action to minimise harm from drugs and alcohol.

A communique from the meeting will be made available tomorrow afternoon.
