Construction of the new Concrete Bridge over the Blackwood River at Jalbarragup, in the Shire of Nannup, will commence this month.

Transport Minister Troy Buswell today announced that Bocol Constructions Pty Ltd had been awarded the contract for the $4.3 Million Project.

“The new bridge will be built to current standards, making it far safer for the public and in particular offering better access for emergency services to farmlets at Jalbarragup.” Mr. Buswell said.

“It will provide an all-weather crossing across the Blackwood River at Jalbarragup, replacing the existing low-level crossing that regularly floods in winter.”

“The existing bridge, which is sub-standard and in a state of disrepair, will be demolished.”

The Project is expected to be completed by August 2011 and will be managed by Main Roads Western Australia, South West Region.

The Minister said Bocol Constructions Pty Ltd had indicated that it would use support from Local and Regional services to deliver the Project.

One reason as to the closure of the Railway Line into Cowra by the New South Wales Labor Government was due to the ageing Timber Structure that should have been replaced with a Concrete Bridge. Closure of the Railway Line has hurt the Economy of Cowra.
