A Victorian Liberal Nationals Coalition Government will provide $5 Million to provide a new runway and redevelop the Bendigo Airport, to drive growth in the Bendigo Region and create jobs, increase prosperity and reduce travel times to Melbourne, Victorian Liberal Nationals Coalition Leader Ted Baillieu said today.

“The Bendigo Airport is one of the greatest assets in the Bendigo Region that has suffered from Labor’s neglect, and it is time that changed.” Mr. Baillieu said.

“A Coalition Government will make the redevelopment of the Bendigo airport a priority for its first term in office, by providing $5 Million for the Redevelopment Project.”

“One of the keys to driving growth and providing opportunities for the people of Bendigo is improving the transport and communication infrastructure in the region, and this has been largely neglected by Premier John Brumby.”

“The benefits of redevelopment of the airport would be huge for the whole region. It would boost business, enable quicker and cheaper additional flight options interstate and to Melbourne and other regional cities, allow produce to be transported faster to market, and enhance Bendigo as a centre of commerce, transport, tourism and communication in regional Victoria.”

“This project should have been completed years ago, and the Coalition will do it while John Brumby just makes excuses.”

“The next stage of the Project will see the commencement of the major capital works on a new Runway and the Business Park.”

“The runway will be stronger, wider and longer than the present facility to ensure the Airport will be able to accommodate a far greater range of aircraft that currently operate on domestic service routes in regional Australia.”

“The increased capacity provided by this work will be a huge boost towards achieving the objective of making the airport and Bendigo an aviation centre of excellence.”

“This will allow more and faster flights to Melbourne, around regional Victoria and interstate. It will open up commercial and commuter options for the airport and Bendigo that just do not exist at the present time.” Mr. Baillieu said.

“The Coalition believes in the future of Bendigo and will work hard with the City of Greater Bendigo to see that the airport redevelopment is a success.” Liberal Candidate for Bendigo East Michael Langdon said.

“Developing the Bendigo Airport as a centre of aviation excellence in the Loddon Mallee area is an integral part of a vision that will allow Bendigo to be developed as a major business, tourist and transport hub, while also providing better access for Emergency and Medical Services.”

“Bendigo needs a better Airport and the Coalition will deliver a newer and larger Airport, allowing commercial flights into Bendigo Airport so residents will be able to fly more cheaply and more quickly to their destinations.” Mr. Langdon said.
