New Starting Stalls For Ballarat Turf Club

Victor P Taffa

Minister for Racing Denis Napthine has announced the allocation of $118,000 to the Ballarat Turf Club for the purchase of new Starting Stalls.

Visiting Ballarat Turf Club today, Dr. Napthine said the Baillieu Government would contribute nearly $60,000 towards these new race day starting stalls to replace the existing stalls which are now past their use-by-date.

“Ballarat Turf Club is one of Victoria’s premier provincial racetracks and a major thoroughbred training centre. It is vital that it has safe and modern facilities for the 31 Race Meetings scheduled for the coming season.” Dr. Napthine said.

“The new gates have been developed in consultation with Simtrack and Racing Victoria Limited (RVL) to ensure the gates will reduce the risk of injury to horses, jockeys and barrier attendants.”

“The new starting stalls have capacity for 19 horses and are designed with more padding which will reduce noise therefore making it easier to load the horses into the barriers and providing a fairer start for all runners.”

“The Baillieu Government is committed to revitalising thoroughbred racing in country Victoria.”

“The provision of modern, state-of-the-art starting stalls at Ballarat shows what can be achieved when the Government works together with Racing Victoria and Country Racing Victoria.” Dr. Napthine said.

Member for Western Victoria Simon Ramsay said the thoroughbred racing industry was a major contributor to the economy of Ballarat and district.

“Racing provides hundreds of local jobs and race meetings at the Ballarat Turf Club bring visitors and dollars into our community.” Mr. Ramsay said.

The Baillieu Government will contribute $59,224 towards the upgrade of the starting stalls with RVL and CRV contributing the remaining funds towards the $118,447 Project.

The new starting stalls are expected to be delivered to Ballarat Turf Club by the middle of the year.

“The Baillieu Government is committed to working with Racing Victoria and Country Racing Victoria to improve the racing infrastructure at all Victorian racetracks.” Dr. Napthine said.
