A state Liberal Nationals Coalition will establish a satellite Office of the Department of Premier and Cabinet in Bairnsdale, Nationals Candidate for Gippsland East, Tim Bull said today.

“Coalition leader, Ted Baillieu, made the announcement yesterday that on election Bairnsdale would be home to one of five satellite offices in regional Victoria and it is welcome news.”

“It will allow the people of East Gippsland direct access to the Department of Premier and Cabinet in their own backyard, which I have no doubt would be very well received by all constituents living in the east of the State.” Mr. Bull said.

“Technology and modern communication systems today means there is no need for all government staff to work in Melbourne. In fact more need to experience rural areas and see firsthand the issues facing regional communities. I applaud the move.” Mr. Bull said.

Mr. Baillieu explained staff in these offices will work with Local Government and other Departments and Agencies to fix problems across all Portfolios and Departments which under Labor have become bogged down in Red Tape.

“Premier John Brumby and his incompetent ministers are out of touch with the People of Regional Victoria.”

“Labor has broken its promises to Regional Victorians, neglected Rural Roads and Bridges, ignored key recommendations and warnings on Bushfire Protection and failed to Plan and Build Vital Infrastructure.” Mr. Baillieu said.

“After 11 years of Labor, the People and Businesses of Regional Victoria are choked by Red Tape and frustrated by City-Based Bureaucracy that ignores their Needs.”

“The Victorian Government should govern for all Victorians, so we will open shopfront offices of the Department of Premier and Cabinet in Five Rural Regions East Gippsland, Barwon-South Western, Grampians, Loddon Mallee and Hume.” Mr. Baillieu said.

“The Coalition anticipates that Offices will be opened in Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Seymour and Bairnsdale.”

“Having Staff from my own Department stationed in Regional Centres will enable Local People to get direct help on issues they have been unable to resolve for years under John Brumby.” Mr. Baillieu said.

The Decentralisation of the Premier’s Department has already successfully operated in New South Wales for more than a decade.

The Department of Premier and Cabinet has a mandate to provide Portfolio-Wide Policy Advice to Government on Infrastructure Needs, Bushfire Reconstruction, Transport, Planning, Energy and other key Portfolios.
