Attorney-General Appoints Temporary Magistrate To Ease Case Backlog

Attorney-General Vanessa Goodwin has announced the appointment of Peter Dixon as a temporary Magistrate for a period of three months.

“This will assist finalising the selection process for a full time northern Magistrate.” Attorney-General Goodwin said.

Appointment of Mr. Dixon is part of our continued commitment to reduce court backlogs and improve Tasmanians access to justice.

Mr. Dixon recently retired as a Magistrate following a lengthy legal career, including serving as a Magistrate in both Tasmania and the Northern Territory.

Mr. Dixon was previously a member of the Council of the Australian Institute of Judicial Administration, regional convenor of the Judicial College of Australia and a member of the Standing Committee on the Reform of the Criminal Law and Procedure.

Mr. Dixon is also a past President of the Tasmanian Bar Association and the Australian Association of Magistrates.
