Australia’s Finest Athletes Get Set For Perth’s New Premier Athletics Event

A New Agreement between the State Government and Athletics Australia will bring Australia’s finest track and field athletes to Perth next April.

Tourism Minister Liz Constable today announced the new event to be known as the Australian Athletics Tour Final Perth would serve as the final of the 2011 Australian Athletics Tour.

“Eventscorp has been working with Athletics Australia to attract an event of this calibre to the State.” Dr. Constable said.

“The Australian Athletics Tour Final Perth will be held next year from April 1-2 at the new WA Athletics Stadium with competitors vying for more than $400,000 in Prize Money.”

“Athletics Australia has developed a new Australian Athletics Tour comprising four one-day events in other capital cities with Perth chosen as the venue for the Final.”

“The benefits to our city are significant the event is expected to attract about 1,200 visitors to the city and inject $1.45 Million into the State’s Economy.”

“West Australians will be encouraged to attend the final for a chance to see some of the country’s best athletes but there will also be a range of ancillary activities on offer such as celebrity events, a community fun run, athletics clinics, and a pole vault event in the city.”

“It will also provide an opportunity to illustrate the extraordinary experiences of Perth with the event expected to receive international and national media coverage, including a dedicated TV program which will be distributed internationally and nationally.”

The Minister said the event added further diversity to Eventscorp’s Events Calendar.

“Eventscorp aims to deliver a diverse events calendar which strikes a balance between sports, and arts and cultural events.” Dr. Constable said.

Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron welcomed the announcement.

“High profile national events like the Australian Athletics Tour Final, present a great opportunity for West Australians to see the best of Australian athletics first hand and it’s also a wonderful opportunity to showcase the state-of-the-art WA Athletics Centre.” Mr. Waldron said.
