Schools and students in the Arnhem region are set to benefit as part of the $100 Million ‘Boosting Our Economy’ package.

Minister for Education Peter Chandler said the $2 Million investment into schools across the Arnhem region will provide enhanced learning environments for students and local school communities.

“The education projects were identified by schools as current priorities to improve the learning environment for their students.” Mr. Chandler said.

“The Boosting Our Economy package will provide a sustained pipeline of works for local small to medium businesses, driving a much needed boost to the Territory economy.”

“We have a record infrastructure spend of $1.5 Billion and to top it off, we’re investing even more to give Territory students and families’ better education facilities now.”

Six schools in the Arnhem region will receive funding as part of this package including

  • Angurugu School,
  • Milyakburra School,
  • Nhulunbuy Primary School,
  • Numbalwar School,
  • Ramingining School,
  • Umbakumba School.

The Education Minister will be visiting schools in Angurugu, Milyakburra and Umbakumba to discuss the new works with the principals and school community.

“This aligns to our school values we are safe, we are learners, we are respectful and we are proud.” Principal of Angurugu Ben Slocombe said.

“Repainting the front office will create a welcoming entrance and make the students, parents and community proud of our school.”

The project at Milyakburra School involves enlarging a classroom to assist with delivering key education programs.

“Having a larger classroom will enable us to maintain small groups to deliver our Direct Instruction program.” Sarah Harrison, principal of Milyakburra School said.

“The Direct Instruction program has been running at Milyakburra School for just over a year and we are seeing the students more confident and engaged in classroom activities, having a larger classroom is an added bonus.”

“It is fantastic to see the support from local school communities for the Boosting Our Economy package and I look forward to seeing the outcome of the works in the near future.” Mr. Chandler said.

“As Minister for Education, I am pleased to be part of a government that is not only creating jobs for local businesses through this package, but also enhancing Territory schools to provide the best possible education facilities for young Territorians.”

Details of education works in other regions will be released in the coming days.
