Elite cricket returns to Alice Springs with the Victorian Bushrangers taking on the South Australia Redbacks in the Sheffield Shield Final at Traeger Park.

Minister for Tourism and Culture Lauren Moss said the match would generate plenty of excitement from around the country.

“Territorians trust the Territory Government to deliver top-level sporting options and that is exactly what we are doing through our agreement with Cricket Australia.” Minister Moss said.

“This is the first time the Northern Territory has hosted a Sheffield Shield final which gives us the opportunity to showcase everything Alice Springs has to offer.”

“The match will be broadcast nationally and internationally beaming beautiful shots of Traeger Park and the surrounding MacDonnell Ranges to thousands of people.” Minister Moss said.

“Hosting events such as this sparks the interest of national and international tourists, while locally the teams, support staff and visitors provide a nice boost to local business.

“What a great opportunity to watch top-level cricket, the Redbacks are also boasting three Territorians in their squad (Tom Andrews, Jake Weatherald and Kane Richardson) which shows the strength of the sport in the Territory.”

“I encourage all Centralians to come along to the free event, it’s a rare an exciting opportunity for the Territory.” Minister Moss said.

Cricket Australia’s Head of Cricket Operations, Sean Cary said the match boasted world-class players across the board.

“Aside from the Test squad in India, these players are the best in Australian cricket and it will be a great five days at Traeger Park.” Mr. Cary said.

“Our sincere thanks go to the NT Government for helping us bring this event to the Territory. We’re always looking at opportunities to host major cricket outside of capital cities and we hope to continue to enjoy this partnership in the future.”

Sheffield Shield Final starts at 10.00 am local time at Traeger Park. Admission is free.
