South Australia has the lowest Population Growth of all Mainland States and Territories with a staggering 2,964 more people leaving SA than arrived from interstate in 2009-10.

Alarming ABS statistics released today reveal that under the Rann Labor Government interstate migration levels are three times higher than they were under the SA Liberals in 2001-02.

Shadow Minister for Sustainability Michelle Lensink said that South Australia’s sluggish population growth of 1.2 % well below the national rate of 1.7 % was due to the high level of South Australians flocking interstate.

“The Rann Labor Government has ignored its own Policy Objectives and targets to the detriment of South Australia. They have failed to achieve their strategic plan target to “reduce net loss to interstate to zero by 2008.” Ms. Lensink said.

“It is completely unacceptable that net interstate migration is three times higher under the Rann Labor Government than it was nine years ago.”

“South Australia is being hamstrung by a skills shortage and after almost nine years the Rann Labor Government has no idea how to improve skill levels and population growth in SA.” Ms. Lensink said.

“Under Labor South Australia is going backwards.” Ms. Lensink said.
