Darwin has been named as the host city for the 20th Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI), National Housing Conference.

Minster for Housing and Community Development, Gerry McCarthy said the AHURI is a national independent research network funded by the Commonwealth, states and territories.

“Its biennial National Housing Conference, which will be held in August 2019, is the largest cross-sectoral event of its kind in Australasia for the social and affordable housing sectors.” Minister McCarthy said.

“It gives a chance for delegates from around the world to come together to discuss topics and share ideas on issues such as homelessness, social and affordable housing and indigenous housing.”

“Territory Government is improving the lives of Territorians through better housing.”

“This is not only a great opportunity to share our experiences but to also learn from other states, and international experts about best practice and innovation.” Minister McCarthy said.

Minister for Tourism and Culture, Lauren Moss said hosting such a prestigious event in Darwin is a great opportunity to showcase the Top End.

“Three day conference is expected to attract up to 1,000 delegates from across Europe, America, Canada, Asia and New Zealand, as well as all states and territories in Australia.” Minister Moss said.

“Not only will this be great for tourism, but will provide a great boost to our local economy.”

Conference will take place between 28th and 30th of August 2019, at the Darwin Convention Centre.
