Regional Development and Lands Minister Brendon Grylls today visited Newman to see first-hand the significant improvements to the $20 Million revitalisation of the town centre.

Mr. Grylls said the new look of the town was unfolding with improved lighting, landscaping, modern shade sails plus the realignment of the shopping centre car park.

“Funded through the Royalties for Regions program, the State Government is delivering on its promise to Newman residents who will benefit from the added amenity.” Mr. Grylls said

Construction is under way for Iron Ore Parade, the new tree-lined road that will provide a striking entrance to Newman’s town centre.

The Minister said residents could also expect improvements to the water, power, sewer, drainage and telephone services to the area.

“Future plans include a new roundabout and updates to Boomerang Oval, including a new multi-purpose sports field with change-room facilities.” Mr. Grylls said.

“The aim of the project is to ultimately accommodate a population of more than 15,000 people, a significant increase from the current 6,000 permanent and 2,000 fly-in fly-out residents.”

Mr. Grylls also visited 23 new residential lots in East Newman. These are priced from $173,000 and expected to be released by Wednesday February 1, 2012.

In addition, LandCorp’s recently released 21 light industrial lots in its Newman LIA have proven highly popular with local business, the EOI process was closed yesterday.
