Hoppers Crossing’s popular leisure centre is set for a major makeover to cater for the growing number of local people who visit the centre each year, following a $2.6 Million Victorian Government funding boost announced by the Minister for Sport and Recreation Hugh Delahunty today.
Mr. Delahunty was at the Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre to make the announcement, a facility already at capacity with more than 540,000 visitors each year.
“Wyndham City is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Australia, boasting a community that is generally younger than metropolitan averages.” Mr. Delahunty said.
“As more and more people move into the area, the pool’s 12-year-old indoor facilities are struggling to cope with the increasing demand.”
“This funding will help rejuvenate the centre, update the facilities and cater for further growth over the next decade.”
“As I’ve said before, as Minister for Sport I am keen to seeing more Victorians getting active, more often, and that’s why we’re investing in this facility so that as many local people can come on down for a swim.” Mr. Delahunty said.
The works will include a refurbishment of the existing 50-metre pool, enhanced water play areas, a bigger learn-to-swim pool, a new warm water pool and spa with ramped entry, new sauna and steam rooms, a new spacious foyer, reception and administration area, a new family change village, new dry fitness areas, new health and wellness centre, a larger crèche, new children’s party rooms and kiosk.
The funding is part of the latest round of the Victorian Government’s Community Facility Funding Program – Better Pools category.
“By investing in aquatic facilities like the Wyndham Aquatic and Leisure Centre, we can encourage more people to get involved in more local sports and events.” Mr. Delahunty said.
“I congratulate and thank the Wyndham City Council on its efforts to secure the funding for this project and their outstanding contribution.” Mr. Delahunty said.
