200 Job Losses Announced In Christmas Lead Up

More than 200 jobs will be lost in the next 18 months after Castalloy Steel announced it would close its Plympton foundry.
Shadow Minister for Industry and Trade, Steven Marshall, said this was bad news for manufacturing and exporting in South Australia.
“Obviously, people are concerned about the future of manufacturing companies like Holden – and Castalloy Steel foundry closing its doors does not bode well for the industry.” Mr. Marshall said.
Mr. Marshall continued the Liberal Opposition’s calls for the Labor Government to show leadership in reforming the manufacturing industry.
“This Labor Government has reduced its support for the manufacturing sector. It has reduced its support for exporters. It has turned its back on the industry.” Mr. Marshall said.
“In 2006 then Premier Rann announced the Labor Government had bought the land at Plympton and leased it back to the Castalloy company.”
“At the time, Mr Rann said the deal “attests to the workers and the plant’s dedication earmarking a strong future.”
“Clearly this news is very disappointing in the lead up to Christmas, especially for the more than 200 families who now face uncertain futures.” Mr. Marshall said.
