Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Ryan Smith, today announced upcoming positions available on the Central Coast Regional Coastal Board, the Gippsland Lakes and Coast Regional Coastal Board and the Western Coast Regional Coastal Board.
“Victoria’s 2,000km of coastline is one of the most publicly accessible coasts across the globe so it is imperative that we have Coastal Boards made up of passionate Victorians ensuring sustainable management of this precious resource.” Mr. Smith said.
“The Victorian Coalition Government is determined to maintain long term sustainability of our coastal regions. We are seeking experienced and passionate people to ensure the state’s coastal public land and marine waters are looked after for their environmental, conservation and recreational values.”
“With the help of the Victorian Coastal Council, the Regional Coastal Boards provide the strategic direction and coordination of coastal planning that Government depends on to do its job well.” Mr. Smith said.
Coastal Board members meet a minimum of five times per year, and decision-making is supported by Board subcommittees. Members are appointed for up to three years, and may be eligible to receive remuneration for their service. Appointments will be effective from 1 July 2012.
“We are looking for a wide range of skilled individuals with expertise that will suit the equally wide use of our coastline from the bustling city beaches to smaller seaside settlements and the remote, untouched wilderness areas.”
“The coast underpins significant environmental, economic, social and cultural values for Victorians and we intend to protect those values with outstanding leadership and management on our Coastal Boards.” Mr. Smith said.
Expressions of Interest close 5pm Wednesday 14th December 2011. Additional information and application forms can be obtained via the Department of Sustainability and Environment website: www.dse.vic.gov.au/onboard
