Victoria Minister for Public Transport Terry Mulder

Tender For Wheelchair Taxi Licence In Port Phillip

Victor P Taffa

Applications are open for a wheelchair accessible taxi (WAT) licence in the Port Phillip area, Minister for Public Transport Terry Mulder said today.

“Wheelchair accessible taxis make an invaluable contribution, helping people with a disability stay connected with their friends, family and the broader community.” Mr. Mulder said.

“The licence is being released via competitive tender to ensure transparency and openness in the process and provide everyone, not just existing industry operators, an opportunity to become a licence holder and a critical part of the southern Peninsula community.”

The licence, which is replacing a licence that has been surrendered to the Victorian Taxi Directorate (VTD), will be made available on a 10 year fixed-term arrangement.

The WAT licence will be subject to conditions that include it being non-assignable and the licensed vehicle must be operated predominantly in the area south of Dromana-Bittern Road (southern sector of the Port Phillip Taxi-cab Zone) Local Hastings MP Martin Dixon encouraged anyone interested to apply.

“I encourage anyone looking to make a contribution to the southern Peninsula community to submit an application through the tender process.” Mr. Dixon said.

“Wheelchair Accessible Taxis are fundamental to ensuring everyone in the area has access to safe, convenient and reliable transport.”

Electronic copies of the application packs can be downloaded from the VTD website (www.taxi.vic.gov.au).

Hard copies can be obtained from the VTD Customer Service Centre, Level 23, 80 Collins Street, Melbourne, or by contacting the VTD on 1800 638 802 (toll-free).

Applications must be received by the Victorian Taxi Directorate by 4.30 p.m. on 13 December 2011.
