Planning Minister Matthew Guy today joined the Prime Minister Julia Gillard and the Mayor of Wyndham City Council John Menegazzo to officially open the new Wyndham Wedge Street Piazza.
The $1.6 Million Piazza, located in the heart of Werribee’s town centre, has been jointly funded by the three tiers of government, including $280,500 from the Victorian Coalition Government for design and construction works.
“This piazza will energise Werribee’s town centre by creating a sense of place for people to visit and enjoy, whether they’re a family doing the weekly shopping or local workers taking a lunch break.” Mr. Guy said.
“This region’s growing communities will come to cherish the piazza and the future works that will further capitalise on the piazza’s proximity to the natural settings of Werribee River and Wyndham Park.”
“Public spaces such as the Wyndham Wedge Street Piazza are essential to community health and wellbeing, and provide an arena for special events, markets and other public activities.” Mr. Guy said.
The Victorian Government has provided funds and advisory services for other planning and design projects for the redevelopment of the riverbank. Related projects include the Riverbend Precinct Concept Design Development, Riverbank Mall, the Wedge Street Pedestrian Bridge, the Wedge Street Pocket Park and the Wyndham Park Master Plan.
