Coalition Delivers On A Safer Ringwood

A new $588,000 signalised pedestrian crossing at Maroondah Highway will bridge the missing link in the Principal Bicycle Network and provide a safe connection for cyclists and pedestrians in Ringwood, Planning Minister Matthew Guy announced today.

Mr. Guy, who made the announcement while visiting the Maroondah City Council today, said the 45 metre crossing was the logical last piece of the shared pedestrian and cyclist pathways through Ringwood.

“The pathways are a key attribute of the Ringwood Activities Area, offering attractive investment and employment opportunities in Melbourne’s outer east.” Mr. Guy said.

“The crossing will enable pedestrians and cyclists to safely access the Eastlink Trail and the recently completed Lake to Creek Link, which takes in the Mullum Mullum Creek Trail from the Ringwood Lake Path.”

Member for Warrandyte Ryan Smith said the upgrade was important for community safety in the area.

“The crossing ensures that people are able to access the Eastlink Trail by providing for a safe crossing across the Maroondah Highway.” Mr. Smith said.

Mr. Guy praised the cooperative work of VicRoads and the Department of Planning and Community Development, which contributed $488,000 and $100,000 to the project respectively.

The signalised pedestrian crossing, which spans Maroondah Highway to the north-east of Larissa Avenue, is expected to be installed by mid 2012.
