Final Polling Night Results

Victor P Taffa

Parliamentary elections were held today, Saturday 7 May, for the Legislative Council divisions of Derwent, Launceston and Rumney.

Final polling night figures are shown on the following 3 pages. All figures are provisional and will be rechecked tomorrow morning (Sunday 8 May). In the following commentary, percentages relate to the total formal votes counted so far.

In Derwent, Craig Farrell (38.71%) has a clear lead on Jenny Branch (20.19%), Ray Williams (16.31%), Deirdre Flint (14.99%) and Phillip Bingley (9.80%). If possible, a result will be ascertained by conducting a provisional distribution of preferences tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon.

In Launceston Sam McQuestin (34.04%) and Rosemary Armitage (32.03%) lead Steve Bishop (19.38%) and Lou Clark (14.55%). It will almost certainly be possible to conduct a full provisional distribution of preferences tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon.

In Rumney Lin Thorp (32.99%) leads Tony Mulder (28.24%), Paul Mason (15.14%), Penelope Ann (13.28%), Cate Clark (6.62%) and John M Forster (3.73%). If possible, a result will be ascertained by conducting a provisional distribution of preferences tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon.

Each division has in the order of 500 or more votes outstanding. If the result is within this margin, or if the exclusion of a candidate is within this margin, it may be necessary to await the deadline for the return of postal votes on Tuesday 17 May 2011.
