Premier’s VCE Awards Reward Top-Scoring Students

A young leader in mental health issues who is fluent in the Australian sign language Auslan and a silver medallist at the International Biology Olympiad are among the top performing Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) students recognised today at the annual Premier’s VCE Awards.

Premier Ted Baillieu presented certificates at the Melbourne Convention Centre to the state’s 20 top All-Round VCE High Achievers who gained study scores of 46 out of 50 or higher in at least five VCE studies.

A total of 307 awards were presented to 283 students by guests including indigenous soprano Deborah Cheetham, scientist Professor Douglas Hilton, Olympic gold medallist Lydia Lassila, chef and restaurateur Alla Wolf-Tasker and fashion designer Peter Alexander.

Mr. Baillieu said the VCE was one of life’s challenges and the High Achiever students had tackled it with great dedication and skill.

“Today is a celebration of the truly exceptional effort made by students who excelled in their VCE last year through a combination of commitment, passion, talent and plain hard work.” Mr. Baillieu said.

Awards were presented in the categories of 20 Top All-Round VCE High Achievers, Best Three International Students and high achieving VCE students in other VCE studies.

Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School scored the highest number of awards with 16, closely followed by Melbourne High School which scooped 14. Both schools had three of the state’s Top VCE All-Round High Achievers.
