Northern Territory Opposition Leader Terry Mills
O’FARRELL’S LANDSLIDE WIN
Victor P Taffa
Opposition Leader Terry Mills has congratulated New South Wales Liberal leader and former Territorian, Barry O’Farrell, on tonight’s stunning election victory.
Mr. Mills said Mr O’Farrell has led the Liberal-National Coalition to an historic election win, recording a swing of around 17% and claiming nearly 30 seats.
“Mr. O’Farrell will make an excellent Premier of New South Wales and I wish him well in dealing with the challenges ahead.” Mr. Mills said.
“Tonight’s landslide result sends a very clear message to the Labor Party that the electorate will not tolerate incompetent and self-serving administrations.”
“The people of New South Wales have washed their hands of a Labor Government that has been mired in scandals and bogged down by mismanagement over the past 16 years.” Mr. Mills said.
“The result also reflects community anger with the Commonwealth’s plans to introduce a carbon tax.”
“As a former student of St. John’s College in Darwin, Barry O’Farrell spent his formative years in the Northern Territory and this is reflected in his pragmatic approach to politics.” Mr. Mills said
“He has worked extremely hard at turning the Coalition into a viable alternative Government since becoming Liberal leader after the 2007 election, and tonight’s result is a reward for that effort.”
“I look forward to meeting with Mr O’Farrell in the future to congratulate him in person on tonight’s election result.” Mr. Mills said.
