State Opposition Tough On Repeat Serial Sex Offenders

Queensland Shadow Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie

Serial Sex Offender To Be Freed

Victor P Taffa

The Bligh Labor Government’s soft laws are allowing sex predators back on the street, the State Opposition said today.

Shadow Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie responded to the release of serial sexual predator Stuart William Armstrong, who has served more than two decades in prison for offences against women.

“Labor’s Attorney-General has put up little resistance to the release of Stuart William Armstrong who has a long history of violence and sexual crimes against women.” Mr. Bleijie.

“Armstrong committed some of these crimes whilst on release orders.  There is nothing to suggest he won’t do it again.”

“Surely the Attorney General or his representative should have stood up for the victims and fought to keep this predator behind bars.” Mr. Bleijie said.

“Between 2006 and 2009 Labor’s laws had allowed more than 54 supervision orders to be made and only 19 detention orders.”

“The Liberal National Party believes repeat serial sex offenders who cannot be rehabilitated or are considered to still be a risk to the Queensland community, should face mandatory terms of imprisonment.” Mr. Bleijie said.
