Premier Anna Bligh needed to end mounting confusion over would could appear in person before The Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry.
State Opposition Leader JP Langbroek said a media statement from the Commission which attempted to clarify the matter would leave many home, property and business owners more confused about who could appear and who couldn’t.
Mr. Langbroek raised the matter in State Parliament this morning after being contacted by the newly-formed Flood Affected Businesses Group – representing 140 businesses affected by flooding at Rocklea and Sumner Park.
“Many of these businesses are significant operations and significant employers, including many large Rocklea market wholesalers and others including storage and logistic companies and they deserve to be heard.” Mr. Langbroek said.
“The media statement from the Commission is unclear and to these businesses and others, unhelpful and the Premier, who only yesterday announced $300,000 in funding to assist people prepare submissions and appear in person at the Commission, needs to clarify the situation.”
“The Liberal National Party’s view is the floods caused enormous personal and material losses and the Commission must be able to take submissions, written and in person and if a little more time is needed and a few more officers then so be it.”
“This is not a process to be rushed, shut-down or restricted in any way.” Mr. Langbroek said.
