New Website Program to Help Students Combat Climate Change

Environment Minister Donna Faragher today launched an innovative new online resource designed to teach students about climate change and how to live sustainably.

Mrs. Faragher said the ‘Operation Climate Change’ Program aimed to provide an integrated learning experience for students in years 5-10 to explore the issues associated with Global Warming.

“The program encourages young people to look at their behaviour in relation to consumption and waste; biodiversity; transport; and energy and water use.” Mrs. Faragher said.

“It shows how adjusting personal actions can make a positive difference to the environment and helps teach students how to reduce the carbon footprint of their family home.”

“Being an online resource means it is available to all young Western Australians in schools; community groups such as the scouts and guides and in isolated areas.”

The Minister, who launched the resource during a visit to Woodlupine Primary School, said the information was presented in a dynamic way that made learning a fun activity.

Mrs. Faragher said the climate change challenge would need to be met by all West Australians, including young people, by making changes to the way we lived.

“It is vital that we all work together to protect our valuable environmental assets, community infrastructure, lifestyle and economy from the effects of climate change.” Mrs. Faragher said.
