Dubbo to be Agricultural Census tested: ABS

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is about to commence a test of its processes and procedures in readiness for next year’s Agricultural Census, starting in the Dubbo region. This follows the recent test for the 2011 Census of Population and Housing also conducted in Dubbo.

The Agricultural Census is a once in five year opportunity for farmers to contribute valuable information about their sector. The information collected includes crops, livestock and other commodity production at the regional level, which is important for future planning of both the industry and local regions.

ABS spokesperson, Adrian Bugg, said the Agricultural Census test would shortly be conducted in the Dubbo region via a mail out, mail back, paper form.

“This test will ensure that the collection of information from about 170,000 agricultural businesses across Australia next year will produce the best possible results to assist and inform the industry.” Mr. Bugg said.

“As well as being representative of regional Australia, Dubbo’s significant agricultural community makes it an obvious choice for this further test.”

“The ABS thanks all participants in anticipation of their support in what is one of the largest statistical collections undertaken by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.” Mr. Bugg said.
