Police charge teen over wild crash with 2 yr old in the vehicle – Ashbury

Police have arrested and charged a 16-year-old girl with a raft of driving offences after she allegedly crashed her parents’ car with her two-year-old sister in the back seat.

Ashfield Highway Patrol officers allege the girl and her 15-year-old female friend took the Silver Honda CRV without permission, placing the toddler in the back seat.

Around 3.15pm, the 16-year-old allegedly panicked in the belief she had spotted an unmarked Police car in Trevannar Street, Ashbury.

Police allege the teenager accelerated and lost control of the vehicle on the wet road.

It is alleged the four wheel drive completed a 360 ° spin and crashed into two parked cars, a Daihatsu Charade and a Holden Commodore.

Upon hearing the crash, residents contacted Police and Ambulance Paramedics.

None of the children was injured.

The 16-year-old was taken to the Ashfield Police Station where she was charged with:

  • Illegal use motor vehicle,
  • Drive manner dangerous,
  • Negligent driving and unlicensed driver (never held licence).

The teenager was released on bail and ordered to appear before Burwood Local Court on 2 March.
