Police issue public warning following theft of railway detonators – Port Kembla
Lake Illawarra police have issued a warning to the public following the theft of railway detonators overnight.
It appears that some time during the evening of Friday 25 December, an unknown person has removed several tins of railway detonators from the rear of a Ute parked in Third Avenue, Port Kembla. The tins were locked at the time.
Lake Illawarra Duty Office, Inspector John Klepczarek is warning the public or anyone else who comes in contact with these tins to exercise extreme caution.
“The items contained in these tins are potentially dangerous,” he said.
“Police are urging anyone who has information about these items to contact police immediately so they can be handled in a safe and professional manner,” said Inspector Klepczarek.
“We are concerned these detonators may come into the hands of those not trained to handle them, or even worse children,” said Insp. Klepczarek.
“Anyone who has information about the location of the items or the theft, is urged to contact Lake Illawarra Police on 42952699 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
“All information will be treated with the strictest of confidence,” said Inspector Klepczarek.
