Newcastle Police reunite Coco with her owners after alleged theft.
Two Newcastle Police officers have played a part in reuniting a family pet with her owners, some three months after she was presumed stolen.
In August Coco, a Bull Terrier/Australian Terrier, was reported stolen from her Wallsend home.
Police began to follow a line of inquiry at Coco may have been stolen for use in illegal dog fights.
The owner/s of the dog later received information that the dog was possible being held by a man from the Wallsend area who might be allegedly involved in stealing dogs for illegal dog fights.
Senior Constables Mitch Harvey and Andrew Patterson began making inquiries to locate Coco.
Yesterday, police attended a home in Mayfield where they found a dog matching Coco’s description. There was no evidence to indicate Coco had been involved in any illegal dog fighting activity.
Senior Constable Harvey said it was a great moment to reunite Coco with her relieved owners.
“It was quite a tearful reunion. You don’t get too many happy endings in policing but it’s nice when they do happen,” Senior Constable Harvey said.
Newcastle Police are still investigating Coco’s theft and appeal to anyone who might have known her whereabouts between August and November to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
